Ascension parish sheriff sale house9/20/2023 ![]() ![]() River Parishes Community College, which partners with local industry, is a prime example. I will push for more investment in vocational programs that prepare our young people to learn a trade and maximize potential to earn a good living in our local economy. ![]() But we owe it to every child to provide the best opportunity for success. Every parent should be able to send children to the school of choice with state funding, via the Minimum Foundation Program (MFP), “following the child.” To be candid, implementation of School Choice will not be an easy process and numerous issues must be resolved to make it reality. Even so, our schools are failing too many children, especially those not wanting to go to college. Three decades spent in our public schools, I have firsthand knowledge about what works and what doesn’t in Ascension’s highly regarded system. First responders and firefighters must have all necessary equipment to protect our lives and property. I pledge to support Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office and our Volunteer Fire Departments, including the introduction of legislation aimed at supplemental pay for those public servants who make our community safe. Without Public Safety, police and fire protection, no community can thrive. Infrastructure includes more than drainage and transportation systems. Significant progress, particularly in drainage improvements, has been achieved despite the incumbent’s neglect. That coordination has been sorely lacking over the last three years. To that end it is imperative to coordinate with Ascension Parish Government and the Council, as well as two municipalities (Gonzales and Sorrento) in District 88. We all know what the problems are in District 88.Īs your representative my focus, as it was during my eight years serving Sorrento citizens, will be on securing the funding necessary to improve drainage and transportation networks. Ascension Parish, with the highest median household income, is more fortunate than most, but we achieved that status at the cost of overburdening every aspect of local infrastructure. Insufficient funding to meet too many needs, that is the fiscal reality confronting municipalities across the State of Louisiana. Budgetary constraints, on a smaller scale, were a fact of life in Sorrento requiring smart decision-making and a willingness to compromise to achieve any desired outcome. As a two-term Sorrento Town Council member I have eight years of legislative experience to offer acquired in often challenging circumstances. ![]() Having spent my entire adult life as an educator and coach, most recently at Bluff Middle School, retirement allows me the opportunity to be a full-time representative. The decision to challenge the incumbent is not an easy one, it is the result of much reflection and discussion with family, friends and many District 88 residents who are unsatisfied with our current legislative representation. My name is Donald Schexnaydre and I am announcing my candidacy for the District 88, Louisiana House of Representatives seat. District 88 candidate, Donald Schexnaydre ![]()
